Snímka na jednej strane buduje takmer žánrové napätie, ale rovnakou mierou skúma povahu a správanie človeka v úplnej izolácii. Hoci múr je tu do značnej miery len metaforou, filmom prestupuje takmer hororová nálada. Režisér necháva protagonistku obklopiť podobne magickú prírodou ako vo von Trierovom Antikristovi. Nielen vďaka Pölslerovej práci s prostredím pôsobí snímka ako povedome realistický sen, do ktorého vstúpil jediný, ale o to viac znepokojujúci cudzorodý prvok. Úplne prirodzené veci tú vyznievajú hrozivo, hoci v skutočnosti nie sú zdrojom nebezpečenstva.
